With 18 categories encompassing the entire digital publishing spectrum, this year’s awards are expected to be the biggest ever – a true reflection of the immense growth digital publishing is currently experiencing, says the AOP.
2014’s front-runners include Immediate Media Co with a total of 7 nominations including Best Consumer Editorial team (Top Gear Magazine) as well as Guardian News and Media and Hearst Magazine, nominated for 6 awards each. Other high profile organisations such as AOL UK and Dennis Publishing are also up for awards.
In-line with the ever changing online publishing landscape, this year’s awards include two new categories, Digital Commercial Individual of 2014 which recognises the top publishing personal working online within a publishing organisation and Digital Marketing Campaign Innovation 2014 which rewards the best innovation within digital marketing for publishers.
All entries were scrutinised earlier this week by a panel of judges from all corners of the online publishing industry, including The Huffington Post UK, editor in chief, Carla Buzasi, James Chandler, Global Mobile Director at Mindshare and Ross Sleight, Chief Strategy Officer at Somo before the shortlist was made final. The winners will be announced at a glittering awards ceremony on July 3rd.
Such was the quality and closeness of entries submitted, says the AOP, that three categories – Digital Ad Ops Team, Media Technology Partner and Commercial Partner required further deliberation from the judging panel, set to take place in the coming days. The shortlist for these categories will be released early next week.
Reflecting on the calibre of this years’ entry, Jon Bentley, Head of Digital development, Incisive Media said: “It is inspiring to be part of a process that recognises such a huge array of talent, passion, intelligence and commercial sense. The quality in these entries is a reflection of the organsiations that sit at the heart of our industry as it continues to evolve despite the many incredible challenges it has faced.”
Charlie Calton-Watson, Digital Director at Bauer Media added: “Judging this year’s awards was a fantastic way to experience first hand the high quality of work the digital publishing space carries out day-in and day-out. It was hard throughout the scoring process to distinguish a clear winner as entry quality was so high. The industry is clearly in a good position, not just in the short-term but also for the longer road ahead.”
Tim Cain, Managing Director of AOP, also commented: “The entries to this year’s awards were amongst the strongest the AOP has ever seen – a true reflection of the strong position the online publishing industry is in. We were particularly delighted to receive a large number of submissions for our two new categories, which aim to reward the very best in digital publishing innovation. It’s never an easy task for the judges to select a shortlist, but I’d like to thank and commend them on a job well done.”
Tickets for this year’s event to be held at The RoundHouse in Camden, London are now on sale.
