Gaby Hinsliff to join Guardian as writer and columnist

Gaby Hinsliff to return to Guardian News & Media as writer and columnist in September.

Former Observer political editor Gaby Hinsliff is to return to Guardian News & Media as a writer and columnist for the Guardian.

Hinsliff, whose final column for the Times was published last Friday, will begin writing for the Guardian in September.

Her column will be appearing on the Comment pages of the paper and online at Comment is Free. She will also be writing in-depth pieces for the Guardian.

Hinsliff worked as The Observer's political editor for five years, in addition to four years as chief political correspondent. She will continue her weekly Grazia column on politics alongside the new Guardian position.

Speaking about the new role, Hinsliff said: "Having previously spent nine years at the Observer, joining the Guardian feels like coming home. I'm really thrilled to be joining the paper at such an exciting time in its history, and look forward to working for a great team."

Jonathan Freedland, the Guardian's executive editor, opinion, said: "Gaby Hinsliff is as shrewd an observer of contemporary life as she is of British politics. She will bring to the Guardian a wealth of experience, wit and insight - and we're delighted she is, as she rightly puts it, coming home."
