2011 Guardian Student Media Awards - winners announced

The winners of the 2011 Guardian Student Media Awards were announced at a ceremony this week.

For over thirty years the Guardian has been rewarding the highest standard of student journalism from universities across the UK.

This year's winners are:

Columnist of the Year

Photographer of the Year

Rajan Zaveri, SAE Institute London

Digital Journalist of the Year

Joseph Stashko, University of Central Lancashire

Broadcast Journalist of the Year

Claire Freeman, Nottingham Trent

This year's judging panel included: Alan Rusbridger, editor-in-chief, Guardian News & Media; Katharine Viner, deputy editor, the Guardian; Ian Katz, deputy editor, the Guardian; Kate Readon, editor, Tatler; Sarfraz Manzoor, author, journalist and broadcaster; Peter Baron, Director of external relations, Europe, Middle East and Africa, Google UK; Jon Snow, broadcaster, Channel 4 News; Laurie Penny, blogger; and Heather Brooke, journalist and activist.
