A responsive makeover for Installer magazine

Installer has re-launched its magazine app with Page Lizard, bringing it up to date with fully-responsive HTML articles, personalisation and other features.

For 20 years, Installer has provided plumbing, heating and renewables professionals with the latest news, product and training information to the industry.

The magazine has had a page-turner edition in Newsstand since 2013, but it was becoming increasingly apparent that the reading experience was difficult for the growing mobile audience, says the company. The team was also aware that their readers would want to check out articles on-the-go, so a mobile-responsive app was essential.

The new Installer app goes above and beyond a simple magazine app, says Page Lizard. Readers have the choice of viewing the monthly magazine in page-replica or mobile-responsive HTML format, and the app now includes personalised streams where installers can select their own topics and interests: from underfloor heating and water treatment to showers, renewables or general business advice.

The app has also had a navigational overhaul and now features sleek sidebars, responsive covers and HTML contents pages, as well as upgraded search functionality.

“We wanted to create a digital version of our magazine that wasn’t just easier for the users to read on smart devices, but also allowed them to access just the content they wanted from each issue,” said Mark McGettigan, Installer’s editor. “This new version of the Installer Reader app delivers that – and more.”
