Archant political editor receives golden accolade

Annabelle Dickson, political editor of Archant daily newspapers the Eastern Daily Press and East Anglian Daily Times, has been given a prestigious Gold Award alongside journalists from ITV, the Daily Telegraph and the Daily Mail.

Annabelle was awarded a top five MHP “30 to Watch 2015” Gold Award last week at a ceremony held at The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA).

The judges said of Annabelle: “Annabelle has won this award for representing the interests of regional journalists and the local press industry in Westminster. The judges unanimously felt that she has done amazing work and is continuing to make the case for better access to politicians for regional journalists. When regionals continue to be under-represented in the media industry, this is a tough but incredibly important beat and something that Annabelle should be recognised for.”

Archant Interim Chief Content Officer, Bob Crawley, said: “Annabelle is indeed one to watch and her success has received praise on social media with politicians from across the political spectrum, recognising and celebrating her success. At Archant we have very successfully been able to use her talents across all our newspapers and associated websites during the election.”

The MHP 30 to Watch is annual recognition for up-and-coming media talent. The awards, launched in 2012, help celebrate the influence and importance of young journalists who are making a difference to the UK media industry. The event aims to openly recognise the work of a number of journalists who have been noted for the impact they are making in their sector, for innovative or inspiring methods of covering news items, or who have recently started their career and have already made a large contribution to public interest.

A number of senior journalists, as well as previous 30 To Watch winners, contributed to the selection process as ‘Gold Award’ judges – selecting a handful of young journalists whose work is deemed to go above and beyond the industry standard.
