Autosport number one iPhone app in sports chart

Autosport.com’s new app has shot straight to number one in the iPhone App Sports Chart (for paid-for apps), says Haymarket.

Over 1,200 have been sold in the first 24 hours since launch.

“We’re obviously delighted that the app has entered the chart in number one position, but it’s early days yet and we’ll track its performance closely in the coming weeks,” said Autosport.com’s digital product manager, Jim Foster.

Designed to significantly improve mobile usability of Autosport.com, the app gives iPhone owners more opportunity to exploit the site’s exclusive news stories, features and interviews.

“We’ve produced a feature-rich app that gives motorsport fans the content they want, on the go,” said technical manager, Geoff Creighton, who managed the project with former publishing manager David Harris.

“In developing the app we were able to take full advantage of the iPhone’s multi-touch user interface and deliver features that are difficult to achieve with a traditional mobile site, such as offline reading.”

As well as instantly serving the latest news, features and interviews, the app offers a live text commentary service during F1 weekends,” allowing users to stay up to date with what’s happening during practice sessions, qualifying and the race itself.

Autosport.com editor, Simon Strang, said: “The app opens up another avenue for us to exploit the potential of our world-leading content. It’s the perfect way to bring Autosport to the user, wherever and whenever they need to get an F1 or motorsport fix.”

Haymarket’s motorsport publisher Rob Aherne added: “I think the app is going to be absolutely addictive for anyone who loves motorsport. Those who worked on it should be proud of what they have achieved.”
