Barnsley Chronicle Expands Web Presence

The Barnsley Chronicle has expanded its web presence with wearebarnsley.com and recently branched out into online radio broadcasting.

According to the Newspaper Society: With no local radio station based in the town, The Chronicle saw the gap for a dedicated local service that could deliver news and sport focused on Barnsley alone. 3,000 people now regularly log on and listen to broadcasts on the station each week.

The radio runs for 24 hours and alongside streamed music, there are request shows, news and The Football Programme which is broadcast on Saturday afternoons after Barnsley FC have played. The show includes interviews with current and former players.

wearebarnsley.com was launched nearly two years ago and has built up a steady following of users on Twitter and Facebook. It has 17,000 followers on Facebook.

The Chronicle has also been out and about in the town asking people what they think about their local paper and have compiled the results on their website.

They also filmed a number of people’s comments about the Chronicle and posted the video online. Quotes from this film have been used as part of an ad campaign that will run for the rest of the year.

Why We Love The Chronicle has been running since February when the website was relaunched. As well as comments from users, the campaign also has vouchers available for local businesses which can be accessed through the website or on smartphones.
