Aberdeen Journals, the Aberdeen arm of DC Thomson Media, welcomed The Duchess of Rothesay to their offices this week.

The Duchess visited the new offices in Aberdeen’s Marischal Square to present an award to the winning primary school of The Press and Journal’s Junior Journalist competition. Ava Duncan and Finlay Mannion from Culter School met Camilla to receive the award which was run in association with The News Foundation.

The Duchess was then given a behind the scenes insight into the media organisation, including a visit to Original 106’s brand new state of the art radio studio. A selection of exclusive photographs from the DC Thomson Media archive was then presented to the Duchess, showing pictures of the Duke of Rothesay and other members of the Royal Family enjoying family time at Balmoral.

Meeting members of staff as she toured the building, the Duchess paused to sign a decades-old guest book reserved for important visitors. She was shown signatures from Charles, who visited Aberdeen Journals when it was based at Lang Stracht in 1992, and her mother-in-law the Queen, who paid a visit in 1972.

Camilla then joined The Press and Journal’s afternoon conference, where senior staff made decisions about the next day’s newspaper. The special guest got to choose which photograph of her visit to Marischal Square would appear on the front page of the north-east and Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire editions.

Alan McCabe, Editor-in-Chief of Aberdeen Journals, said, “It was an honour to welcome Her Royal Highness to Aberdeen Journals. We’re incredibly proud of the team we have here and the amazing output we produce every day, and it seems she was impressed by the work we are doing.”

The Duchess of Rothesay also carried out visits to HorseBack UK in Aboyne and Maggie’s in Aberdeen, during her afternoon of engagements across the north-east of Scotland.
