Daily Mirror to Host Exclusive Labour Leader Hustings

The Daily Mirror will be exclusively hosting and live streaming a hustings with the Labour leadership candidates tomorrow.

The event will be the first time a newspaper has hosted a hustings with all four candidates ahead of the 10 September vote deadline.

The candidates will face a panel of eight Mirror readers and Labour supporters, who will ask one question each. Panel members will give a score and one sentence verdict on the answers they’ve heard, which will appear in paper the next day.

The debate will be moderated by Daily Mirror columnist Ros Wynne-Jones. Readers who cannot be there can still get involved by sending in questions to pitch to the leaders, with the best ones being selected to be asked.

There will be commentary on social media throughout the debate via the hashtag #MirrorHustings, and plenty of pre and post event analysis in paper and online.

Pete Picton, Editorial Director of Mirror.co.uk, said: “This Labour leadership campaign has huge significance not just for the future of the Labour party but for the future of politics in the UK. That is why we thought it was so important to give as many people as possible the chance to hear what the potential leaders have to say in their own words and fire the important questions at them.

“The campaign has been hugely polarising so far with Corbyn-mania splitting the nation. We’re expecting it to be quite a lively afternoon and we’ll see how each of the candidates perform under that kind of pressure.”
