Debrett’s and Tatler to launch School of Etiquette

The Debrett’s Academy, with its reputation for delivering training and consultancy on etiquette has partnered with Tatler to launch The Debrett’s and Tatler School of Etiquette.

Launching this month, the Debrett’s and Tatler School of Etiquette is aimed at audiences of all ages, from school pupils and young adults to older people looking to broaden their knowledge of British traditions. Topics range from dining and correspondence to modern skills such as digital etiquette and dress codes. The School will equip participants with the confidence necessary to make the best impression at all times and in all environments, says Tatler.

The partnership marks the first time that the Debrett’s Academy has developed a cobranded school. Classes will be available to groups of up to eight people, and to private individuals looking for a more personal experience. The school will be based at Debrett’s Mayfair headquarters, with some course modules taking place at external locations including Claridge’s and the Condé Nast College of Fashion & Design. Classes on offer include:

Coming of Age, a one-day course that aims to help young people build confidence in social environments. For 13-16 year olds, classes include guidance on how to communicate with adults and a focus on digital etiquette, which advises pupils on the best way to manage their reputation online.

Finishing School is a two-day course that enables young adults (aged 17+) to develop their social language, presentation and people skills to maximise their personal impact.

Course modules include first impressions, digital etiquette and the ‘Next Stage’ including guidance on video CVs, turning a meeting into a contact and coping with failure.

Best of British gives people the certainty of how to navigate British culture, etiquette and traditions including the rules of the British Season. The two-day course includes a class in dining etiquette, taught at Claridge’s, and a module about country pursuits.

Hosting and Entertainment is a one-day course on the art of throwing parties, giving participants an understanding of useful entertaining skills including invitations, flowers and placement.

Style and The Season focuses on the British Season, providing individuals with the confidence to participate fully and enjoy the events. The course is available to take as two half day courses, or over a full day with one class focusing on style including black and white tie dress codes and the second class focusing on The Season.

Joanne Milner, CEO, Debrett’s said: “The Debrett’s and Tatler School of Etiquette is an exciting new partnership for us.
