Empire - Icons of the Decade

The December issue of Empire, the movie magazine, will be published with ten different covers to recognise the ten most popular movie icons that have defined the decade according to an empireonline poll.

From 22nd October, www.empireonline.com will reveal the most popular film characters that Empire has featured throughout the Noughties in the run up to the December issue's on sale date of 29th October. The poll attracted over 16,000 votes.

Mark Dinning, Editor of Empire, said: “The Noughties has been a hugely exciting time for movies and Empire has loved being part of it every step of the way. We couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate these ten amazing years than by paying tribute to the ten greatest characters to come out of them – characters who will live forever in film fans’ hearts.”

Empire is celebrating its 20th birthday in 2009. Earlier this year the Empire team, led by Mark, relocated to LA to work with the world's most famous film director Steven Spielberg, who guest edited the birthday edition.

The June issue included exclusive portraits and interviews from a veritable Hollywood Who's-Who: Jack Nicholson, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tom Cruise, Mel Gibson amongst them. The original prints were autographed and subsequently auctioned at Paramount, with almost 20k raised for Great Ormond Street Hospital.
