Empire's Prometheus cover uses new foiling technique

The May issue of Empire magazine has a special cover to launch the film Prometheus.

This Alien prequel film is due to be one of the movie events of the year and will be released in June. The dazzling front cover has a brand new combination of finishes to create this Sci-Fi metallic effect. It has textured and micro embossed foil, using rainbow holographic foil as a base (this was achieved in one pass of a foil machine). The magazine and foil area was printed 4 colour + white with in-line UV varnish by Colour Five with a UV litho press.

248,000 copies of this Empire cover were produced for Bauer Media and are available in the shops now. According to Celloglas, there is a lot of hype about this spectacular cover on Twitter, Facebook and other social networking pages, describing the cover as “tasty”, “awesome” and “well worth checking out”, with comments such as “loving the cover” from readers.

Steve Middleton Sales Director at Celloglas commented “This is the first magazine cover that we have processed with over-printed holographic foil and the result is stunning. By micro embossing the foiled areas, this really lifts the level of holographic reflection to another level”.

Martin Barry Art Director of Empire magazine commented “Celloglas showed us various finishing options and produced a number of proof covers. We choose this overprinted, micro embossed holographic foil cover because it produced the most dazzling result and the production fitted our time scales and budget. We especially like the textured areas of holographic foil with black printed on top in select areas. This has really captured the Aliens franchise sci-fi look”.
