Richard Dennen, Editor of Tatler, yesterday announced the appointment of Fay Maschler as Restaurant Critic.

Fay Maschler: “Going glossy is good.”

Fay was previously Restaurant Critic at the Evening Standard, a position she has held for 48 years. Fay will bring her extensive experience and expertise to the role and she will be overseeing content in both the magazine and on Tatler.com.

On the Tatler website, Annabel Sampson wrote: “The veteran critic, on a pedestal with the likes of Tatler’s former contributor, the late great AA Gill, and even immortalised in two photographic portraits in the National Gallery, is practically fluent in restaurants and all that it comes with, from service to presentation via the main event, the food. She’s known to visit not once, but twice (to guard against aberrations), and restaurants are said to compare a dazzling Maschler review to being awarded a Michelin star.”

On her appointment, Fay Maschler said: “After a long (48 years) rewarding apprenticeship as restaurant reviewer for the Evening Standard, I am thrilled to be joining Tatler. Going glossy is good.”
