FHM March issue redesign

The March issue of FHM (on sale 4 February) has been redesigned to better showcase the recent editorial changes made by new editor Colin Kennedy.

According to Bauer, the new layout is the culmination of six months work and incorporates new research from readers.

Jeremy Leslie, one of the UK’s most respected design gurus, worked with Colin on devising a simple and strong look that amplifies and updates FHM’s "famous DNA - Funny, Sexy and Useful". The refreshed layout also significantly enhances the three major sections FHM is now built around – namely, Access, Filter and Upgrade – providing each section with a distinct visual identity.

Editor Colin Kennedy commented: "We wanted to create a magazine that is not just a directory of ‘stuff’. Too many lifestyle magazines have contents pages that read like shopping brochures. We reorganised FHM to provide real services for men even in this mobile broadband age. Access captures the banter of a great night down the pub with your mates. Filter cuts through the release clutter to present just the 20 things that matter each month. And Upgrade is crammed with practical advice on everything from style to fitness to sex.

Jeremy’s expertise also allowed us to create a significant step-change in the value of the package we offer readers – there is now more of everything. Words and pictures. Old and new. Funny and sexy. Accessible and aspirational – that’s the new FHM."

Jeremy will continue his relationship with FHM in a freelance capacity as Creative Consultant. He has, meanwhile, helped Colin recruit a new art team that will implement and improve the new design.

Nick Thackray moves from Bauer Media stablemate Max Power to head up the FHM art desk. He will be supported by Adam Gerrard who is newly promoted to Deputy Art Editor. Completing the new team is new Picture Editor Samantha Webster who spent the last four years creating best-in-class shoots for the Mail On Sunday’s Live magazine.
