The newsletter offers subscribers an in-depth look at politicians, their businesses and money moving around Washington, DC.
Everson, who formerly authored a highly regarded Substack newsletter called “1100 Pennsylvania,” has spent the last four years reporting on Donald Trump and his Washington, D.C. hotel, which, says Forbes, served as the epicenter of the swamp in the Trump era.
Now, with “Checks & Imbalances,” Everson is expanding his beat, maintaining an eye on the former president while expanding his investigations to cover politicians across the spectrum.
The new premium newsletter, which launched yesterday, is written by Zach Everson and edited by Dan Alexander, Forbes Senior Editor.

In January, Forbes announced its “Journalist Entrepreneurs” platform, a multi-platform initiative that helps writers create deeply engaged communities around their subject-matter expertise and build enduring businesses across Forbes platforms, including premium newsletters, says Forbes.
In addition to “Checks and Imbalances,” Forbes has unveiled paid newsletters for key Forbes franchises like the “Midas List,” which focuses on the venture capital community, and “SportsMoney,” which details the business of sports. The newsletters are edited by Alex Konrad and Mike Ozanian, respectively.
Forbes also recently announced that the team from Alpha Alarm, the popular newsletter formerly on Substack, and Kevin Dowd who previously wrote about the private markets for PitchBook, have joined Forbes’ Journalist Entrepreneurs initiative as well. Alpha Alarm provides insights into the world of decentralized finance (DeFi) and Bitcoin markets. Dowd’s newsletter at Forbes is called Deal Flow and is focused on mergers and acquisitions.
