The Financial Times has announced the appointment of Leslie Hook as natural resources editor, responsible for commodities and energy coverage.

According to the publisher, her previous roles at the FT include environment and clean energy correspondent, San Francisco correspondent, Lex writer and Beijing correspondent.

FT editor Roula Khalaf said: “Leslie is an outstanding journalist who becomes natural resources editor at a time of geopolitical crisis and soaring energy costs. Readers rely on the FT to explain and provide insight about these industries, and Leslie will deliver just that.”

Hook will be among the FT journalists leading the discussion at next year’s Commodities Global Summit (20-22 March) in Lausanne, Switzerland, the pre-eminent annual gathering of industry executives.

The publisher added that she replaces Neil Hume, who has left the FT after 16 years. Before becoming natural resources editor, Hume was mining and commodities editor, Asia-Pacific correspondent and editor of FT Alphaville, the FT’s financial blog.
