Future launches TechRadar Phone Awards

Future, the special-interest media group, has announced the inaugural TechRadar Phone Awards – the UK’s “biggest celebration of all things mobile phone”.

Showcasing the very best in phones, apps and accessories, the TechRadar Phone Awards is the UK’s most exciting consumer phone awards, says Future. It launches after a landmark year for the industry: in 2010, there were 1.6 billion mobile phones sold and 8.2 billion apps downloaded (according to research company Gartner).

The TechRadar Phone Awards’ 12 categories include six chosen by public vote and six selected by a panel of expert judges, including representatives from MSN, Sky, Daily Telegraph and Gizmodo. The category split means the results will get to the heart of what the public really think – and what the experts’ verdicts are.

Voting is open now and closes in June, with the winners announced in July.

Nick Merritt, Publisher for Future’s TechRadar said: "The mobile phone sector is the most fascinating area in consumer technology. Everyone is fighting it out at the top of the smartphone market, and thousands of developers are making some spectacular apps. Recognising the best work amongst all this is what the TechRadar Phone Awards are about."

According to Future, TechRadar is the UK’s biggest consumer tech website, and recently picked up a prestigious gong in the Experian Hitwise Awards. The site’s mobile phone coverage is unrivalled, with news, reviews and features like the authoritative 20 Best Mobile Phones in the World Today.
