Future unveils next stage in digital strategy

Future, the special-interest media group, has announced the launch of 14 new iPad apps as the next stage of a digital strategy aimed at positioning the company as a leader in multi-platform publishing.

Future already claims to attract over 23 million unique users a month from around the world to a portfolio of websites which includes TechRadar, GamesRadar and CVG. Now the company has announced a major drive to deploy a succession of new digital products on iPads and other mobile platforms at a wide range of price points.

“We are announcing 14 special iPad editions today aimed squarely at the Christmas market in the UK, US and other countries where iPad penetration has created viable markets. Future already produces some of the most popular magazines on iPad platforms and these new editions will make us a UK front-runner in turning our print portfolio into an interactive digital product range,” said Mark Wood (pictured), Future UK’s Chief Executive.

The iPad apps have been specially created by Future’s in-house app development team. All of the apps are paid-for, with a variety of different price points and formats, with some including in-app purchase ability.

Using content from across Future’s extensive archive and portfolio of in-depth special interest media, the iPad apps will appeal to the passions and interests of people across the globe. All of the apps will be available on the App Store and promoted on MyFavouriteMagazines before Christmas.

Future claims to have a strong track record of developing digital content. T3: iPad Edition, a monthly bespoke iPad magazine, is now on to its third issue. The Zinio edition of T3, one of 50 magazines Future has available in Zinio format, is constantly ranked in the Top 10 of Zinio downloads.

Future US’s Guitar World Lick of the Day iPad app generated 330,000 downloads in its first week, and the Mac|Life tablet edition for iPad was number one on the App Store on both side of the Atlantic, and has been downloaded in excess of 450,000 times, says the publisher.

Mike Goldsmith, Editor in Chief of Future’s iPad and Tablet Editions added: “The iPad is the perfect showcase for Future’s unique archive of specialist content. The display quality makes our photography and video look amazing, the App Store enables us to reach out to new global audiences, the online capability allows us to interact further with the many communities we’ve built over 25 years.

It’s the perfect match and this Christmas, we’ve launched the first batch of a wide range of Future iPad apps that smartly make the most of these obvious synergies to deliver fantastic products.”
