Future’s T3: iPad Edition launches subscriptions service

Future has announced the launch of its in-app subscription service for T3 magazine’s iPad edition.

Following the recent launch of the first iPad newspaper ‘The Daily’ and the news that Apple has now allowed in-app magazine subscriptions, T3 becomes one of the first magazines in the world to offer subscriptions to its iPad edition. The subscriptions service will be available immediately.

Since the announcement of the iPad last January, Future claims to have seen sales of the digital edition of T3, its leading premium gadget magazine, increase by over 5000% (according to statistics taken from Zinio and iTunes). It now sells 10,000 digital editions each month.

T3 says it was the first UK magazine to fully embrace the arrival of the iPad. It immediately became one of the best-selling UK magazines on Zinio, and in October 2010 was the first UK magazine to launch a monthly, paid-for, fully enhanced iPad edition on the Woodwing platform.

Sales of T3: iPad Edition have experienced double digit growth each month since launch, and the title is now regularly listed as the highest grossing lifestyle app in the UK.

Nial Ferguson, Group Publishing Director of Future’s Technology portfolio said: “The arrival of subscriptions to the T3 iPad edition comes at the perfect time, as we publish our fifth monthly edition.  We are now able to offer a selection of value offerings from a free trial and single issue purchase, through to 90, 180 and 360 day subscriptions.

“Contrary to the reported experiences of most other magazines, T3 has seen sales of its iPad edition grow month-on-month and we have therefore seen our overall monthly circulation grow.

“We took an early decision to invest in taking T3 onto the iPad in a monthly format, rather than wait and see as many other publishers have done, and that decision is paying off massively. But we aren’t stopping here.

“We were in Las Vegas in January at the annual Consumer Electronics Show and more recently at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, where over 80 new tablet computers were announced and we are now in discussion with many of these companies, exploring the distribution opportunities for T3 and for other Future brands.”

The fifth issue of T3: iPad Edition is on sale now, available from iTunes.
