Garmin sponsors T3’s Olympic Tech series

Garmin has joined forces with T3, the technology lifestyle brand, to celebrate the count-down to the London 2012 Olympic Games with a series of sponsored features on the technology behind the sports.

The year-long series across T3’s print and tablet editions examines the kit behind the UK’s biggest ever sporting occasion, and what will be the most technologically advanced games ever. Each month focuses on a different event, from swimming and cycling to sailing and the marathon, revealing the kit and tech that powers the athletes in training and at events.

As well as a top tech fact about the Olympic torch, the first entry looks at the Triathlon, with expert tips from 2012 British hopeful Hollie Avil, a member of the GB Triathlon Team.

As the world leader in mobile navigation technology, Garmin recommends an appropriate product for the featured sport in each issue. The first is the FORERUNNER 310XT, a GPS-enabled, waterproof watch that can be bike or wrist mounted for each section of the Triathlon, and tracks and transfers data wirelessly to your computer for analysis.

Charlie Said, Senior Ad Manager for Future’s Technology Division, says: “Garmin and T3 make for an excellent brand fit in this unique series. As sports have become more competitive, the need for better equipment and more advanced technology has increased, making this a fantastic series for T3 to host over the next 12 months. The partnership allows Garmin to reach T3’s audience of influential technology advocates and early adopters and suggest suitable products and kit using motivating editorial.”

“We are now one year away from most famous games in the world and teaming up with T3 to show the technology behind them is a great opportunity to promote Garmin’s GPS products used by many of the top athletes competing in 2012 Olympics.” said Anthony Chmarny, Head of PR at Garmin, adding “T3 came up with a super idea that works well with our overall PR communications strategy for our products and we both believe the balance between real editorial content and sponsorship works well.”

Sales of the fully interactive T3: iPad Edition continue to grow month-on-month, and every product on the iPad Edition, including those in the Olympic countdown, are accompanied by an appropriate affiliate link, driving consumers to purchase opportunities directly from the magazine.

The October issue of T3 is on sale in print and on iPad on 18th August.
