GQ Style reveals its ‘Liberation Issue’

To mark GQ Style’s 15-year anniversary, the Autumn/Winter 2020 issue is inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement.

GQ Style reveals its ‘Liberation Issue’
Elgar Johnson: “The rise of BLM has achieved so much already for everyone but there is still a long way to go.”

The Liberation Issue recognises this on-going cultural shift, and celebrates positive black role models. GQ Style says it dedicates this issue to the champions of change who are moving the conversation forward.

Elgar Johnson, Deputy Editor and Fashion Director of GQ Style curated this issue which represents a global reboot. This reboot is reflected in the visual reinvention of the magazine for this anniversary issue and for the future. Across nine different covers, say the publishers, numerous friends and collaborators have created their own message, to contribute towards this monumental cultural shift.

Dylan Jones, Editor-in-Chief of GQ: “I am thrilled that Elgar Johnson will be steering and curating the new issue of GQ Style, an issue espousing activism, cultural rebellion, discussion, positivity, and celebration.”

Luke Day, Editor of GQ Style: “Our 15 year anniversary is not a time for looking back; instead, it presents an opportunity to speak up and help shape the future. The GQ Style team are a family, we support and learn from one another. As editor and a white man, I’m listening and learning about race and it felt only right that an issue celebrating black activism should be guided by Elgar, who as a positive black role model has experienced prejudice. At GQ, we believe in educating ourselves and our readers on tackling systematic racism and unconscious bias.”

Elgar Johnson, Deputy Editor and Fashion Director of GQ Style: “I’m incredibly proud and excited to be curating this very special issue of GQ Style. The rise of BLM has achieved so much already for everyone but there is still a long way to go. We have to keep moving forward and I’m confident that alongside my colleagues and our contributors we can create something very special.”

The Autumn/Winter 2020 issue of GQ Style is available via digital download and on newsstands 12 November.
