Gramophone creates senior online role

Reflecting the “hive of activity” that has been Gramophone’s digital offerings lately, Gramophone has promoted Martin Cullingford to the newly-created role of online editor.

Cullingford, formerly deputy editor of Gramophone, will run www.gramophone.co.uk as well as working with the Gramophone team on directing the fast-evolving online opportunities.

Already his remit includes the vast digitised archive, as well as the popular and influential “Pure classical charts” and news. Reporting to Gramophone editor James Inverne, he will continue to have an active role in the magazine.

“Martin is been an important figure for Gramophone and in the music industry,” says Inverne, “The fact that we are promoting such a respected figure to run the online offerings shows how serious we are about the tremendous possibilities for Gramophone online. It is an area to which Martin brings a great deal of knowledge, experience and enthusiasm and he will be a huge asset as we continue to build our digital presence.”

Replacing Cullingford as deputy editor of Gramophone will be Sarah Kirkup, previously deputy editor of Classic FM magazine.

“Sarah is an extremely positive person and a motivating force on any magazine,” said Inverne. “I’m greatly looking forward to working alongside her as a central part of the Gramophone team.”
