Granta Italia, edited by Rizzoli's Editorial Director Paolo Zaninoni, will be launched on 14 May at the Salone Internazionale del Libro in Torino. The first issue, devoted to Work, features a selection of translated pieces by Salman Rushdie, Colum McCann, Martin Kimani and V. v. Ganeshananthan that originally appeared in Granta 109 along with additional pieces from the Granta archive by Doris Lessing and Chang-rae Lee.
The issue will also showcase new pieces by some of Italy's most exciting contemporary writers. Silvia Avallone, who novel Acciaio was the literary sensation of 2010; Michela Murgia, winner of the Campiello Prize, novelist Francesco Piccolo; Giuseppe Catozella, who recently published and investigative novel on the mafia business in Northern Italy; Walter Siti, fiction writer, literary historian and the editor of the complete works of Pier Paolo Pasolini; Giorgio Vasta, who novel Il tempo materiale will be published in the UK by Faber; Marcello Fois, winner of the Premio Super Grinzane Cavour for Italian fiction; and Antonio Pascale, whose La manutenzione degli affetti was shortlisted for the 2003 Premio Strega.
Granta Italia will include extracts from the debut sensation The Tiger's Wife by Tea Obreht, one of the New Yorker's acclaimed 20 under 40 whose latest essay will appear in Granta 115: The F Word, and Alissa Torres' graphic memoir, as well as extraordinary reportage by the great photographer Gianni Berengo Gardin.
