Guardian relaunches books site

Guardian and Observer books coverage enters a new era. The books site has been completely restructured to put readers and users at the centre of literary discussions.

Alongside its unrivalled books journalism from the most exciting critics and authors around the world, guardian.co.uk/books has become the venue for readers to talk about books with journalists, critics and with each other, say the publishers.

Readers can now rate and review millions of books, create and share reading lists and get more involved in our books coverage.

Claire Armitstead, books editor, Guardian News & Media, said: "This week marks the start of a new era on the Books site, a deepening and a widening of the links between our vibrant books community and our literary journalism. From now on we'll give our community a wider platform to join in and create their own content by rating books, writing reviews and discussing the subjects they're interested in. This shift towards more collaborative discussion opens the door to the knowledge and enthusiasm of our increasingly international community - to the mutual benefit of everyone who loves books."

The new features on the site include:

• A dedicated books search of more than 8 million books making it easier for readers to find editorial and information on books and authors.

• Tools to allow users to rate and review any book on this huge database

• Dedicated author and book pages with biographies, bibliographies, reader reviews, links to existing content and links to purchase their books.

• A list function where users can compile and share a selection of their literary tastes on the site and via Facebook and Twitter.

• A place for readers to share links, tips and suggestions with the editorial team and with other users
