Haymarket appoints chief operating officer

Haymarket chief executive Kevin Costello has announced that finance director Brian Freeman has been promoted to chief operating officer, with effect from January 2010.

Freeman (pictured) will report to Costello on all overseas (excluding US) operational matters to implement a strategy for operational management and development of these overseas subsidiaries. In addition he will continue to report to Jeremy Duckworth, the Group finance director, on all matters relating to the effective financial management and reporting processes across all divisions for Haymarket Media Group.

Costello said: “I am delighted that Brian has accepted this new role and feel that it reflects the significant contribution he has made to Haymarket over the past 21 years, it also recognises what he has done so far in bringing these overseas businesses into the Group. Brian is well known to many of the staff overseas and I look forward to working more closely with him in developing our overseas businesses further.”

Freeman said of his promotion: “I’ve always been heavily involved in the expansion of the Haymarket Group outside of the UK, but primarily from a financial and legal viewpoint. I’m delighted to expand my responsibilities further with this role and I look forward to working with the local management teams in driving further growth into these companies and building on the success of the last decade. I will of course continue to work with the finance teams across the entire Group but I’m excited by the opportunity to help shape the strategy for growth in my new role.”
