How It Works gets half a million downloads in 5 days

Imagine Publishing has announced that its ground-breaking science and technology magazine, How It Works, received 542,000 downloads in its first five days on Apple Newsstand – far exceeding the publisher’s expectations.

How It Works also became the highest-grossing iPhone Newsstand app in the US iTunes Store, and reached third highest grossing in the UK. The performance of this digital edition has been phenomenal, say the publishers, beating such established titles as The New York Times, Health & Fitness and Esquire.

How It Works is just one of Imagine’s portfolio of 20 successful technology magazines, and it has since been joined on Apple Newsstand by other key brands, including iCreate, SciFiNow, Web Designer, Apps Magazine, Total 911, 3D Artist, Play, games™ and Retro Gamer.

“I’m delighted with the performance of How It Works on Apple Newsstand,” said Editor in Chief Dave Harfield. “It seems fitting that an innovative and exciting magazine like this one should be received so well via this cutting-edge method of digital delivery. It’s fantastic that over half a million people have been able to discover and enjoy How It Works in this way.”

How It Works Editor, Helen Laidlaw added: “This huge number of downloads demonstrates the universal appeal of How It Works, and it’s great that a service like Newsstand is already delivering hundreds of thousands of new readers worldwide.”
