How It Works Launches Free iPhone App – Great Days Out

Imagine Publishing’s flagship magazine, How It Works, the popular science and technology magazine, this week announced the launch of its latest mobile app, Great Days Out.

The new app is aimed specifically at the How It Works readership of 24-45 year old active, inquisitive individuals and families, and is designed to highlight interesting and unusual places in the UK that guarantee a ‘great day out’.

Showcasing thousands of museums, art galleries, castles, palaces, parks, National Trust and English Heritage centres, zoos, railways, cathedrals and much more, users of the app are spoilt for choice with thousands of relevant recommendations, says Imagine Publishing. How It Works’ Great Days Out even helps families to discover mysterious, obscure and interesting places not normally found on a map, both near their current location and also further afield!

Users can choose to discover interesting venues in two ways – the intuitive and dynamic Map View, or as a geotargeted List View that contains images of each place. A tap of the screen instantly reveals all suggestions in the immediate area, and users can also scroll around the whole of the United Kingdom when planning visits in other areas.

Click on each venue/event to access useful information such as photos, opening times, entry prices, contact details, and many other services at the location. The app is regularly updated with new places to visit.

Dave Harfield, Editor in Chief said of the app: “If How It Works is the magazine that feeds minds then Great Days Out is the app that stimulates and excites minds through amazing first-hand experiences. If you want to find unique and interesting activities for your family that are both inspiring and educational then this app will provide everything you need for truly great days out. No family should be without it.”

How It Works’ Great Days Out features live data feeds from cultural and heritage centres across the UK that are part of the Culture 24 initiative and are supported by the Arts Council of England.

“Great Days Out was built by our talented in-house digital team using the latest mobile technology, and takes our innovative and expanding app portfolio in an exciting new direction.” said App Development Manager, Paul Cooper.
