IET invests in Agfa’s :Apogee Media

:Apogee Media was brought in by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) to help advance the production procedures of its flagship magazine, E&T.

E&T is produced 18 times a year with a worldwide circulation of 150,000.

The IET began managing the 80pp E&T magazine with Agfa’s :Apogee Media in early 2010, and its successful implementation has since resulted in three more of the IET’s remaining four publications migrating to the :Apogee environment.

Production manager, Michelle Williams (pictured below), explained: “We needed to update our manual production workflow to increase the frequency and extent of our flagship magazine, E&T. Our goal was to find a solution that would manage the production process from cradle-to-grave. This would enable us to automate the pre-flight of incoming advertising files, store advertising and editorial assets, manage the editorial proofing cycle, create press-ready PDFs and export good-quality XML to our Web CMS at the end of the process. Our preference was to manage the editorial and production process via one central flatplan-based interface.

“At the time we entered contractual negotiations there were similar products in the market, but none that provided the full end-to-end service that allowed content to be hosted at the publisher’s servers,” Williams concluded.
