IHT opens new print site in Beirut

The International Herald Tribune (IHT) has announced that it has opened a new printing operation in Beirut to serve the Levant region, increasing its number of print sites in the Middle East to five.

This latest expansion to the IHT’s printing and distribution network ensures early morning distribution of the international newspaper in Lebanon, Syria and Jordan to home and business subscribers, news retailers and hotels. Printing is to be carried out by the Cooperative Printing Company (CPC), distribution will be managed by Levant International, and subscriptions will be handled by Tarwij sal.

Stephen Dunbar-Johnson (pictured), IHT publisher, said, “I am delighted that we will now be able to better serve our readers in the Levant. Last year, the IHT’s Middle East circulation increased by 44% and earlier this year we opened our new regional office in Dubai Media City – so this latest opening in Lebanon represents another step forward in a region where we are continuously looking at ways to expand our footprint.”

Elie Balmain, CEO of Levant International, said, "We are looking forward to managing the IHT's smooth distribution across an important region in which we have extensive experience."

Ziad Tueni, CEO of the CPC print site, added, “Printing the IHT here will help to further diversify the range of media available to the Lebanese population and our regional neighbors, who are avid and savvy consumers of current affairs, offering them a world view rich in commentary and analysis. It is a great complement to the already vibrant media landscape.”

Beirut will be the IHT’s 39th print site.  The newspaper is already printed in Kuwait, Qatar, Egypt, and the UAE as well as in Turkey, India, Pakistan and 30 other print sites around the world.
