InPub launches free iPhone app

InPublishing has launched a free iPhone app of its March / April 2010 issue.

The iPhone app of the March / April issue of InPublishing is free to download from the iTunes store. Search for ‘inpublishing’.

The app has been created by Stonewash DD&AG. When viewed in landscape, the app allows users to scroll through the issue using the standard finger-swipe controls familiar to iPhone users, and when held in portrait, the app then presents an easy-to-read text version of each article.

James Evelegh, editor of InPublishing, says:  “I was impressed with the simplicity and ease of use of Stonewash DD&AG’s app solution, along with the quality of the reading experience. Like lots of publishers, we are dipping our toe in the water with regards apps. I can’t say with any great certainty in which direction the app will take us, but I’m looking forward to exploring whatever opportunities it presents.”

Rob Grainger of Stonewash DD&AG says: “Over the last three months we've seen a rapid upsurge in mobile app downloads, particularly for iPhones. There have been over 10 million iPhones sold in the UK since launch which is a huge potential market for brands and media owners alike. Magazine publishers, in the main, have been quick to pick up on the potential and we've already seen some astonishing figures posted for downloads of the Guardian and GQ. It seems that finally the readers are dictating how they want to receive their media. The iPad looks set to take this a stage further and offers a much needed lifeline to the publishing industry. Magazines and newspapers are evolving rapidly, no longer seeing online and mobile media as competitors but as potential revenue streams for their own brands.”

InPublishing will also be doing an app of the May / June issue, due to be published on 24th May.
