The conference ran over 24 hours, giving the scientists worldwide an opportunity to present research posters in a virtual capacity to the entire scientific community.

All the registered posters were judged by leading international experts from the board of IOP SciNotes, and other IOP Publishing journal boards. Each subject category winning posters were rewarded £100 and an IOPP ebook of their choice.

Tim Smith, Associate Director at IOP Publishing, said: “#IOPPposter provided an opportunity for all areas of scientific research to present in one event, with dedicated subject hashtags to mark posters for different fields.

“Over 24 hours there was a constant stream of people joining in and sharing research with peers, experts and subject chair panellists. There were more than 721 thousand profile impressions, more than 400 retweets, 900 favourites/likes and 180 comments to posters. The interest was thrilling to see, and opened-up a fascinating discussion and knowledge exchange on latest research in emerging areas of interest. We’re extremely pleased the community found it interesting, and we’re planning to do something similar again.”

The event coincided with the recent launch of IOP SciNotes – a new open access option for authors to formally publish and disseminate individual stages of their research.
