Jed Glanvill appointed project director to review audience measurement

Jed Glanvill, former CEO of Mindshare, is to oversee the audience measurement review initiated by the national newspaper industry last month.

Initially for a six month period, Glanvill will chair an Advisory Group, which will agree the brief for a future-proof cross-platform measurement system and approve the appointment of the research providers.

Starting on 1 September, one of his early tasks will be to recruit the Advisory Group, which will be made up of members from the IPA and PPA, as well as the NPA. He will also consult with the NRS, the current provider of newspaper audience measurement, to establish the best way forward. Glanvill will continue to build his interim talent management business, Glanvill&Co, in tandem.

Glanvill, who has over 20 years’ experience in media, was previously deputy chairman of the IPA’s Media Futures Group in his capacity as CEO of a top 10 media agency. Commenting on the new role, Glanvill said: “I think that now is the time to grab the opportunity. I look forward to working with the industry to establish the universally sought after improved measurement system.”

Rufus Olins, CEO of Newsworks, said: “Jed is a seasoned leader with a hands-on approach and a practical understanding of the role audience research plays for media owners and agencies. The industry is fortunate to be able to draw on his experience and relationships.”

At the same time Mediatique, the strategic advisory firm, has been appointed to work with Glanvill. Mediatique has conducted a wide range of projects in the media industry including work for ITV, Channel 4 and a report for Ofcom into the provision of news in the UK. The firm is run by Mathew Horsman, former equities analyst at Investec and one-time media editor of The Independent.
