Digital+ subscribers will also retain their current benefit of having access to a newspaper e-edition too.

The move was announced on Wednesday afternoon via Twitter by subscription and registration editor Sam Shedden.

Shedden wrote: “We already offer subscribers 70pc fewer ads than non-paying customers but now those on Digital+ subscriptions will enjoy an ad-free experience when signed in to the website and reading an article.

“In an effort to declutter our websites we’ve drastically reduced the amount of marketing messages during the user journey.”

The additional features will cost subscribers to the Yorkshire Post £12.99 per month, compared to the standard digital subscription of £11.99 per month. For digital subscribers to the Edinburgh Evening News they will see their monthly subscription go up to £10.99 from £9.49.

Shedden added that “reduced in-article messaging” will also be introduced and that new discounts with a range of JPIMedia’s commercial partners will be made available to all digital subscribers.

He further promised “significant” upgrades to the publisher’s apps, further premium content, and more loyalty rewards.
