Launch: Citibet magazine

Citibet, the free weekly football betting magazine, is set to launch this week in London with an editorial staff led by former FHM and Rolling Stone editor Ed Needham.

Content produced by Needham’s team at publishing and creative agency Grand Parade promises to arm readers with ‘Weekend Football Intelligence’ through a range of topical stories and insightful columns focusing on major domestic, European and international football fixtures.

Citibet will target ABC1 professionals, who will be typically male and working in the City and Docklands areas of London. Confirmed advertisers include Northern & Shell as well as bookmakers Coral, Betfair, Sporting Index and William Hill, with the latter providing two tickets to the 2012 FA Cup final between Liverpool and Chelsea to be won in the first issue.

“We want our readers to wake up on a Friday morning and think ‘Citibet’,” says Ed Needham, Citibet editor. “In order to achieve that we will be putting together a quality magazine that not only informs, but also entertains. While our core audience will be found in the City, we will cater for anyone who has an interest in football or betting.”

Citibet, which is being funded, published and distributed by Citipost, one of the UK’s leading privately owned fulfilment and delivery organisations, will have an initial print run of 75,000 copies and be made available via hand-to-hand merchandisers at key London Underground stations and mainline terminals.

Utilising the Citipost Direct Distribution network, additional copies will be placed within magazine display units at corporate offices of financial, legal and marketing companies in and around the Square Mile and Docklands. Citibet will also be found in City pub and bar chains, Docklands news retailers as well as business lounges and airside departure and arrival gates at Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted. There will be additional distribution at large London midweek football matches.

Citipost is owned by Danny Charlesworth, who also owns and breeds racehorses including Crack Away Jack and Baby Mix. Charlesworth adds: “Citibet has enormous potential and we are all very excited to be launching the publication. Our editorial team comes with an exceptional track record and the scale of the Citipost distribution network will ensure that the magazine gets into the right hands and is widely read. Advertisers have proven very receptive to the Citibet concept and we are sure readers will be too.”
