Local World announces editorial appointments in Herts and Essex

Julie Palmer, Editor of the Hertfordshire Mercury, has been appointed to the new position of Senior Editor for the Herts and Essex business.

Julie will continue to be the Editor of the Hertfordshire Mercury; however, she will also be responsible for co-ordinating editorial teams across the business.

Julie has been with Herts and Essex for four years, joining as Deputy Editor of the Hertfordshire Mercury in September 2010 and taking over as Editor in January 2013.

Julie said: “I am delighted to be taking on this role at an exciting time for the Herts and Essex portfolio. I believe with the support we now receive from Local World South East we are in one of the best positions we have ever been to take on the new challenges in the industry.”

Sue Webb will take up the new position of Group Features Editor for the Herts and Essex business, reporting to Julie Palmer. Sue will be responsible for the new property and leisure supplements across the estate and will also co-ordinate commercial features and projects.

Sue started her career as a junior reporter on the Hertfordshire Mercury in 1987 before working as a sports reporter on local and national newspapers for five years. She then returned to Herts and Essex Newspapers, fulfilling a number of senior editorial roles, latterly as Editor of the Advertiser series for the past six years.

Sue said: “I am excited to be taking up this new role and am relishing the challenge. The new property and leisure supplements will add even more value to what are already great products – and I am looking forward to bringing fresh, innovative ideas to the table to boost our commercial opportunities.”

Both take up their new roles with immediate effect.
