Maney acts to guarantee online journal content

Maney Publishing has joined the CLOCKSS, LOCKSS and Portico digital preservation services to guarantee the long-term security of its e-journal content.

Maney currently has more than 100 e-journals in materials science and engineering, health sciences and humanities. The partnerships enhance the service Maney offers to libraries, working to ensure perpetual access is maintained for all journal subscribers, and support its commitment to the long-term preservation and future accessibility of Maney’s e-journal content.

CLOCKSS will preserve Maney journals in its geographically and geopolitically distributed network of redundant archive nodes, located at 11 major research libraries around the world.

With LOCKSS, Maney joins approximately 400 leading scholarly publishers that have granted permission for their content to be preserved and for the provision of post-cancellation access by LOCKSS Alliance participants.

Maney is one of 111 publishers, representing more than 2,000 societies and associations, which work with Portico. Portico currently has 11,330 e-journal titles and 43,253 e-book titles committed to the archive, and 657 participating libraries around the world.

CLOCKSS (Controlled LOCKSS) is a not-for-profit joint venture between the world’s leading scholarly publishers and research libraries whose mission is to build a sustainable, geographically distributed dark archive with which to ensure the long-term survival of Web-based scholarly publications for the benefit of the greater global research community.

LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe), based at Stanford University Libraries, is an international community initiative that provides libraries with digital preservation tools and support so that they can easily and inexpensively collect and preserve their own copies of authorized e-content.

Portico is a digital preservation service for electronic journals, books, and other content. Portico is a service of ITHAKA, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping the academic community use digital technologies to preserve the scholarly record and to advance research and teaching in sustainable ways.
