Marie Claire launches mentoring campaign

Marie Claire is publishing a power-themed May issue. The special edition of the magazine launches a mentoring campaign backed by a host of high profile women, who will be offering their time and expertise to mentor readers.

Marie Claire’s Inspire & Mentor campaign, in association with The Prince’s Trust, has gained support from women representing a wide range of industries, such as fashion, film, beauty, media and retail. Among those on board are interior designer Kelly Hoppen, skincare founder Liz Earle and Michelle Mone, creator of Ultimo, the multi-million pound lingerie company.

Those involved from the media world include Dawn Airey, chairman and chief executive at Five, Claudine Collins, group press director at MediaCom, Kanya King, founder and chief executive of the MOBO Awards, and digital expert Joanna Shields, formerly managing director of Google and CEO of Bebo.

Inspirational women such as Leona Lewis appear on the Power issue’s gatefold cover and there will be a 10-page story celebrating women who have the power to change lives. Readers can get involved in the campaign by logging onto www.marieclaire.co.uk/mentoring.

Trish Halpin, Marie Claire’s editor-in-chief, says: “We’ve joined forces with some of the UK’s most inspirational women to launch Marie Claire’s Inspire & Mentor campaign, which highlights the importance of mentoring as a vehicle for social mobility amongst young women as a way of improving women’s lives.”

Ginny Lunn, director of policy at The Prince’s Trust, adds: “Mentoring plays a vital role at The Prince’s Trust. We mentor young people from a range of disadvantaged backgrounds – from aspiring entrepreneurs to young offenders on their journey from custody back into the community. Young people from all walks of life need support. Some advice, guidance and inspiration can go a long way towards turning young lives around.”

The Inspire & Mentor campaign aims to:

• Raise the profile of mentoring and the importance it plays to women, working in partnership with The Prince’s Trust

• Tap into the experience of high profile women from a broad range of business disciplines to mentor Marie Claire readers

• Gain support across the UK – from businesses and individuals – to become mentors and empower other women. These may be women who are finding it difficult to get back into the workplace after being affected by the recession or who want to make a professional change and need the encouragement to do so

• Raise £25,000 for The Prince’s Trust to help change young lives across the UK.

Marie Claire will continue to push its Inspire & Mentor campaign in issues throughout the year.
