Media Scotland launches standalone website for Glasgow

Media Scotland announces the launch of Glasgow Live - a new website for Scotland's biggest city - on April 18.

The new website follows the successful launch of sister Trinity Mirror titles Belfast Live, which amassed an audience of more than one million unique users in less than five months, and Dublin Live which launched earlier this month, says Trinity Mirror.

Glasgow Live will provide a rich supply of rolling local news, weather, traffic, what’s on and lifestyle under the strapline ‘my city, my life, my news’ to a potential audience of more than a million people.

Edited by Gregor Kyle, the site aims to be a positive, local voice, delivered by an independent editorial and commercial team of young Glaswegians passionate about their city.

It will feature writing from some of Glasgow’s best-known journalists including a diary from Kevin McKenna, ‘Glasgow Lives’ picture essays from Elaine Livingstone and a slice of Burnistoun observational wit from TV's Robert Florence.

And, say the publishers, it will provide a platform for thousands of businesses - big and small - to have a conversation with their customers.

Gregor said: “We will be taking a positive approach to our stories and won’t be telling our readers what to think about an issue, instead delivering the facts in a completely neutral voice.

“We will also be embracing all forms of digital and social media and interacting with our readers across a range of platforms, putting them at the heart of the news.

“This is a great opportunity for both myself as editor and for my talented group of young journalists to tell the story of our great city and to provide a platform for all Glaswegians to make their voices heard.”

Allan Rennie, Managing Director of Media Scotland, said: “Trinity Mirror has a strong track record of launching standalone digital websites and we’re following the formula by producing strong and engaging local journalism for the people Glasgow.

"Based in the heart of the city we’re in the perfect place to serve and build a loyal digital audience.

“Gregor has put together a quality editorial team who will reflect the lives and loves of Glaswegians every day.”
