Metro launches apps

Metro UK and Metro Herald Ireland have released new iPhone applications, enabling users to instantly read their latest newspapers, get live news, scroll and search content and access archived editions.

Metro claims to be the first daily newspaper in the UK to publish scrolling editions on a Smartphone device, using an application developed by PageSuite.

PageSuite and Metro believe both new and existing readers will be attracted by intuitive reader displays, plus “remarkable” zoom and search possibilities. Archives and articles can be searched by keywords and readers may download single pages or editions to read offline. The applications are available to download free from the iTunes store for use worldwide.

“The Metro Apps take our newspapers successfully to the Smartphone market, increasing the channels through which our readers can enjoy our products,” said Operations Director Stuart Wood. “PageSuite has worked closely with us to meet our exact requirements, from branding and functionality to briefing and App submission.”

“The new App allows users to intuitively scroll through each edition and perfectly suits Metro’s design and our urbanite target audience.

“For advertisers and sponsors, the iPhone App offers further benefits, such as links direct from the newspaper editions to their websites, driving customers and revenue streams. We delighted to offer our readers another way of getting their daily Metro moment.”

“We are pleased to continue our relationship with Metro UK and Metro Herald, building on the successful design of Associated Newspapers e-editions.” said PageSuite Managing Director Nathan Parrett.
