Metro partners with Carphone Warehouse to launch ‘Connect’

Yesterday, Carphone Warehouse announced a six month partnership with Metro. The activity is designed to position Carphone Warehouse beyond pure mobile retailing and starts to place it in a wider connected technology context.

The new section called ‘Connect’, which launches today, runs every Friday and will showcase technology, gadgets, gaming and apps. With 3.2 million readers, in 50 cities across the UK, Metro is a perfect vehicle to target a young tech savvy audience first thing in the morning, says Metro. Friday is the ideal day for driving weekend footfall to Carphone Warehouse.

This unique partnership is the first of its kind, a paid for, co-created editorial section which will engage readers with content such as ‘Lust List, which focuses on the buzz around new technology that week, and ‘Ask Carphone’, where readers can tweet a panel of experts a technical question.

The partnership was created and managed by media agency m/SIX.

Sophie Robinson, Creative Director, Metro says: “This is a media first for Metro and it highlights the partnerships we can deliver with our in house creative agency Story. We have drawn upon expertise from all areas of the business, editorial, insight, sales and planning to come up with something that will really engage our Urbanite readers and deliver maximum impact for Carphone Warehouse.”

Colin Kennedy, Commercial Editor, Metro says: “The launch of Connect represents a new way of working for Metro. We wanted to develop a new gadgets strand for our tech savvy audience and by partnering with Carphone Warehouse from the outset we have been able to reinvest and co-create a truly premium editorial section that meets both our reader needs and their marketing objectives.”

Julian Diment, Marketing Director at Carphone Warehouse says: “Carphone Warehouse is so much more than just a mobile phone retailer. We plan to use this partnership as an opportunity to demonstrate to Metro readers our expertise and knowledge in technology, as well as our passion for delivering the best possible deals for customers via our new in-store experience Pin Point. ”

Andrew Cockburn, Business Director at m/SIX says: “This is a truly collaborative and mutually beneficial partnership that enables Carphone Warehouse to have meaningful and helpful dialogue that adds to the overall reader experience.”
