Metro to present low carbon motor festival EcoVelocity

On 8-11 September 2011 Metro, in partnership with the organisers of the British Motor Show IMIE, will present EcoVelocity, a “unique” live outdoor low carbon motor festival for all the family in London.

Claiming to be the first-of its kind, EcoVelocity will showcase the best low and ultra-low emission vehicles currently available and offer test drive opportunities. What Car? magazine will host the annual What Car? green awards at EcoVelocity.

Motor professionals will present the latest technology and motorists facing soaring costs and environmental pressure can find advice from a wide range of experts. The festival will highlight the auto industry’s commitment towards zero carbon. Exhibitors will include Ford, Vauxhall, Volkswagen, Honda, Mitsubishi, Kia, Peugeot, Citroen, SEAT, Hyundai and Renault.

Family activities at the festival will include:

• The SEAT young drivers programme for 11-16 year olds

• The Honda “my first license” introduction to motorcycling for young children

• The What Car? Catwalk parade presenting the best eco cars in each class

• The Lean Mean Green Super Car Paddock

• The Eco-Lab – an entertaining and engaging look at the science behind eco-motoring

• Fabulous food prepared by a well-known celebrity chef

Linda Grant, Managing Director of Metro, said: “There has been a gap in the market for an event aimed at city dwellers that showcases low carbon vehicles. We know Metro readers are car owners with urban specific needs and so we wanted to bring to them a show that would engage, entertain and inform them about the wealth of new vehicle options now coming into the market.

“This will be a dynamic festival of motoring packed with the latest no-compromise, hi -tech and ultra low carbon motor vehicles. The event has been enthusiastically received by manufacturers and we are excited to be even more involved in the motoring industry.”

Kenny Campbell, Editor of Metro, said: “These are tumultuous times for the motoring industry, with manufacturers and motorists alike having to deal with issues such as pollution, congestion and soaring fuel costs as never before. And yet we continue to need cars and, indeed, to like cars, even in our crowded cities. That's why Metro is proud to throw its weight behind EcoVelocity, with its focus on ultra-low carbon motoring. The public's perceptions of new-tech motoring are changing –with EcoVelocity, we aim to make those perceptions change more quickly.”

Metro is also working with Transport for London to help them promote their Source London campaign – a new city-wide electric vehicle charging network.

The EcoVelocity festival will be open to the public from Thursday 8 September until Sunday 11 September from 10am –6pm.
