Mirror announces new editors

The Mirror has announced the appointments of Peter Willis and Alison Phillips to the roles of Mirror Editor (Weekdays) and Mirror Editor (Weekends) respectively.

Lloyd Embley, Editor of the Daily Mirror and Sunday Mirror, said: "These two positions are absolutely key to the seamless introduction of a seven-day operation at the Daily Mirror and Sunday Mirror.

"Peter and Alison are superbly talented journalists whose creativity, drive and instinct are exactly what we need.

"I worked with them both at the Daily Mirror for many years before editing The People and I know that we will make a dynamic team. These are richly-rewarded promotions for two of the finest journalists I know."

Peter Willis started his 25-year Fleet Street career at The Sun, working in both news and features, before joining the Daily Mirror in 1997 as the launch editor of the Saturday magazine The Look. During his 15 years at the Mirror, he has held executive roles including Deputy Editor, Associate Editor, Assistant Editor and Head of Features. He has been on the Mirror's editing rota since 2002.

In 1999, Peter devised and launched the Daily Mirror's annual star-studded Pride of Britain Awards with the aim of reflecting the core values of the Mirror. He has produced the event with ITV1 for the past 14 years, during which time it has established itself as one of the highest rated awards shows on British television.

Alison Phillips joined the Daily Mirror in 2001 as features editor before becoming associate editor eight years ago. Prior to the Mirror she was features editor at the Sunday People for two years. Previously she has worked on the Sunday People magazine, Woman magazine, Connors press agency covering East and West Sussex, the Evening Argus in Brighton and the Harlow Star.
