New editor appointed for Somerset titles

West country journalist Ed Oldfield has joined Tindle Newspapers as Editor of the West Somerset Free Press and Wellington Weekly News.

New editor appointed for Somerset titles
Ed Oldfield: “I am delighted to be back in Somerset and working for a family-owned company that is committed to local journalism.”

Ed has joined the Somerset titles from Reach, where he was Agenda Editor, working across Devon Live, Cornwall Live and Plymouth Live, following a 30-year career in the regional media.

Ed has held a number of roles with Reach, including as a Local Democracy Reporter in Devon, social media editor for Devon Live and Head of Audience for Devon and Cornwall.

He has also worked as a production editor on the Express and Echo in Exeter, and for the Western Morning News and Western Daily Press.

The Somerset job sees Ed returning to the area where he worked as a reporter with the Western Daily Press in the 1990s.

He said: “I am delighted to be back in Somerset and working for a family-owned company that is committed to local journalism and the communities it serves.

“There is a great team here producing well-read, successful newspapers, and the business is also firmly focused on digital growth.

“I’m looking forward to supporting those efforts across print and digital, and renewing some old acquaintances.”
