New Editor for Shropshire Star

Keith Harrison has been appointed Editor of the Shropshire Star and Shropshire Weekly Newspapers.

Keith (pictured), aged 43, joined the Express & Star as a reporter, becoming a sub editor and then moving to Shropshire Star as sports editor, becoming chief sub and Assistant Editor before re-joining the Express & Star as deputy editor in 2002.

He replaces Sarah-Jane Smith who has decided to stand down from the role of Shropshire Star Editor after 10 years to pursue other interests. She joined the Midland News Association in 1979 as a trainee, working firstly for Shropshire Weekly Newspapers, then at the Express & Star before becoming Editor of the Shropshire Star.

She said: “It has been a privilege to work for the MNA in so many roles during my 32 years with the company. I will certainly miss my team, of whom I have always been immensely proud, but I am delighted to wish to the company every deserved success in the future.”

Mr Douglas Graham, Chairman of parent company Claverley Group, said that during Sarah-Jane’s period as editor she had overseen many changes and made a considerable contribution to the newspaper’s success. He said the company wished her well for the future.

Mr Jon Simcock becomes deputy to Mr Harrison.
