New Video Revenue Stream for Publishers

Online video specialist Video Direct has launched Mothership, an interactive multi-channel video player designed to help publishers generate revenue from their advertisers’ existing video content.

The Mothership platform can be re-branded by any publisher and provides a prominent and attractive media space for their advertisers’ video to be promoted on, says Video Direct. The player holds an unlimited amount of content which can also be sub-divided into categories to help publishers manage large volumes of video and also help site visitors find what they want. No software integration is required to host the Mothership platform.

Every advertiser video played through a publisher’s Mothership can be supported by up to eight levels of interactivity, enabling video viewers to download the advertiser’s brochure or product specification sheet, view their website, email the advertiser or simply purchase the product online. These layers of interactivity improve the experience for the end user and make it more responsive for the advertiser; publishers can therefore charge a premium to be in it. Publisher branded viewer analytics are also offered.

Mothership also displays publisher’s own editorial videos which can be further enhanced by the interactive features provided; web users can download an accompanying press article relevant to the video or simply email the relevant journalist directly.

Advertisers without video can also purchase a wide range of Video Direct’s automated or professional video production products directly through the publishers own advertising sales teams, an existing model already being offered to their own advertisers by IPC Media and Centaur PLC.

“More and more advertisers are now having online video produced and this figure is only going to grow. This is creative material which publishers can make money from. With Mothership, we’ve created a professional, technically advanced and attractive media space for publishers to play video in so a premium price can be charged to advertisers to be in it.” said Andrew Petherick, Business Development Manager of Video Direct.
