NewspaperDirect powers Kiosko y Mas

An industry first, Spain's top publishers collaborate to create a multi-platform news destination that aggregates more than 30 full-content digital edition newspapers and 60 magazines, making them instantly available online and on iOS and Android.

NewspaperDirect says: “In a move that emphasizes convenience and choice for readers of Spain's top newspapers and periodicals, the biggest ever editorial alliance of Spanish publishers have joined forces to present all their newspapers and magazines under one digital roof. Kiosko y más, which was recently launched in Madrid, unites Vocento, Prisa, Godó, Zeta, Axel Springer, RBA and other groups - publishers of some of Spain's most popular newspapers and magazines- and presents them in a single online destination that is accessible on a wide range of desktop and mobile devices.

30+ newspapers and 60+ magazines are available for immediate delivery in the Kiosko y más digital newsstand, all presented in their original, as-printed format. Native apps for both Apple iOS and Google Android also offered, enabling any of the publications to be read on these industry-leading smartphones and tablets. Support for additional mobile operating systems and devices is coming soon.

NewspaperDirect, the world leader in multichannel newspaper and magazine distribution, worked closely with each of the participating publishing groups to ensure a consistently high user experience for their publications. All the online editions featured in Kiosko y más are powered by NewspaperDirect's SmartEdition technology, which is built on PressDisplay.com - the only digital publishing platform today that can aggregate multiple publications on one site and offer advanced cross-title features and viewing capabilities for the titles. This unique and proprietary technology enables NewspaperDirect's publishing partners to quickly deploy full-content digital newspapers or magazines with advanced features such as: high-resolution graphics or text-view reading modes, bookmarking, article sharing via email or social networks, cross-title search and instant translation into up to 12 languages. Kiosko y más today offers translation of all articles from Spanish into English, French or Russian.

To reach mobile users via phone and tablet applications, NewspaperDirect developed a special branded version of its popular PressReader application, again enabling a fast time-to-market with a comprehensive set of reader-focused features optimized for all the latest devices, including a highly immersive reading experience, gesture-driven navigation, zooming, panning, and viewing in landscape and portrait modes.

Titles available at launch include National newspapers (e.g. EL PAÍS, ABC), regional titles (e.g. El Correo, Las Provincias, La Vanguardia, El Periódico de Cataluña, La Voz de Galicia, Heraldo de Aragón, El Norte de Castilla, among others), sports (e.g. As, Mundo Deportivo, Sport), business (e.g. Cinco Días, Inversión & Finanzas) and magazines (e.g. Lecturas, Rolling Stone, In Style, Cinemania, Woman, Computer Today, National Geographic), to name a few. For the complete list of publications available in Kiosko y más, see the announcement in the July 14, 2011 edition of EL PAÍS. Publishers set the pricing model for their specific titles within Kiosko y más, with single-issue, monthly subscriptions and print-digital bundles available.

"NewspaperDirect is an outstanding partner for us on this project. They have the technology, experience, proven track record and aggregated, multi-platform capability that allows us to give our users a rich, pleasurable reading experience that truly delights," said Juan Luis Moreno, chief of digital strategy at Vocento. "The NewspaperDirect Team does all the heavy lifting, managing the integration and all technical aspects of Kiosko y más and the mobile applications. This allows us to focus on delivering unique, high-quality content to our readers around the world."

"Kiosko y más represents an important step for the news publishing industry. By forming alliances of this nature, publishers can offer readers the content they love, packaged in a rewarding experience that can be delivered across all platforms and devices," said Alexander Kroogman, CEO of NewspaperDirect. "We applaud this move, which is truly visionary and a benchmark model for other countries around the world."”
