Newsquest Releases Five News Apps

Newsquest Media Group has launched five news apps for sale to users of Apple iPads and iPhones.

The five are part of a 12-month trial to assess the reader appeal and commercial potential of electronic 'page turning' versions of its local and regional media brands.

Two of the five apps are for daily paid-for newspapers, The Northern Echo and The Argus, Brighton; one a paid-for weekly,The Oxford Times; the fourth title is a free weekly, the Sutton Guardian. The final title in the line-up is the Hampshire Sports Pink, a popular Saturday evening sports paper produced by Southampton's Daily Echo.

The apps are all page-turning replicas of the original publication running on Apple's mobile operating system, iOS and using PageSuite's Dynamic App platform.

They are available on both iPad and iPhone and can be downloaded from the App Store or from Apple's Newsstand, the recently-launched portal which allows users to browse and buy news and magazine apps.

Roger Green, Digital Media Managing Director for Newsquest Media Group said: "Launching five different apps enables us to try out various pricing and promotional strategies and to observe differences in appeal of the titles on offer."

The Newsquest apps can be seen in the iTunes Store.
