NS Communications and Marketing Merged

The communications and marketing departments of the Newspaper Society are to be merged in January and a newly constituted Communications and Marketing Committee formed under the chairmanship of Danny Cammiade, chief operating officer at Johnston Press.

This results from Robert Ray, marketing director of the Newspaper Society, deciding earlier in the year that he wished to leave the NS to seek fresh challenges in the agency/media owner world after seven years successfully leading the marketing arm of the local media trade body. Robert Ray will leave the NS in January 2012.

Lynne Anderson (pictured), communications director at the Newspaper Society, will become communications and marketing director with effect from January, with responsibility for developing an integrated communications and marketing strategy for the NS and its members.

She will continue to have management responsibilities for the NS and NPA, including deputising for the NS/NPA director David Newell.

David Newell, director of the Newspaper Society, said: “Under Robert’s energetic and effective leadership, we have grown awareness and understanding among advertisers and agencies of the unique strengths of UK local media and developed its usage as a powerful national advertising medium across print and digital. Robert has put us on the map with major agencies and blue-chip clients.”

Danny Cammiade, currently Marketing Committee chairman, said: “There is a logic to bringing the communications and marketing functions together in a more cohesive way under Lynne’s leadership. She has the skills and knowledge of the industry to help us build on the excellent work we are currently doing and which Robert Ray has done so much to promote and develop through his marketing insights and strategies.”

The new Communications and Marketing Committee, which will be accountable to the NS Board, will oversee:

• Industry communications strategy, generic marketing and public affairs.

• Commercial revenue generation through Featurelink, databases and other NS initiatives.

• Research and audience data including JICREG and ABC relationships.

• Member services covering editorial facilities, Newspaper Conference, NS website and other communication and information channels.
