Oneshot: The Mirror Collection – Weapons That Won WWII

Weapons That Won WWII, a special issue from the Mirror Collection, goes on sale 16 July, priced £5.99.

According to distributors COMAG Specialist: Following the series commemorating 100 years since the start of the WWI, this special from the Mirror Collection spotlights the innovative weapons that helped to end WWII.

When Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain announced to the country in September 1939 that Britain was once again at war with Germany, many people listening would have been forgiving that the country was unprepared for the battles ahead.

But Britain had made huge technical advances since the First World War and plans had been made to build a modern force for defence of the country that involved British expertise, logistics and engineering that was second to none.

While the biggest asset we had was, undoubtedly, the courage, sacrifice, endurance and resilience of this country's armed forces and civilians – the tools and methods at our disposal played a large part in turning the tide in the favour of the Allied forces.

With images taken from the archives of the Mirror newspaper, 84-page Mirror Collection – Weapons That Won WWII will explore some of the key weapons and equipment that made a difference to our war, including some never before seen images from Mirror photographers who worked alongside the servicemen and women at the time.

Celebrating the level of skill and ingenuity it took to build the tools that would lead us, ultimately, to victory Mirror Collection – Weapons That Won WWII will have sections about the weapons used in the air, on land and at sea, but also those used on the Home Front and in civilian life. There is also a section on the final devastating weapon that had the last word – the atomic bomb.

A must-have for any military history enthusiast, Mirror Collection – Weapons That Won WWII will be a unique snapshot of the machines and equipment of WWII.
