Paul Cheal appointed IPC Digital Publishing Director

IPC Media has announced the promotion of Paul Cheal to digital publishing director across IPC Media.

Currently publishing director for NME, NME.com and Uncut, Paul (pictured) will take up his new position in late autumn, playing a key role in shaping IPC Media’s digital strategy.

Paul’s initial key responsibility will be to lead IPC’s editorial and publishing teams in the ongoing development of IPC brands across new devices and platforms, with particular emphasis on tablet growth.

Paul joined IPC Media in 2000 as associate publisher of IPC Inspire’s Outdoor and Hobbies Group, before holding publishing director roles for IPC’s Motoring and Marine titles. In 2006, he was appointed publishing director of NME, NME.com and Uncut and, in that time, led NME’s development into an innovation-led multi-platform brand, overseeing the successful launches of NMETV and NME Radio and the expansion of the NME Awards franchise.

In his new role, Paul will report directly to Neil Robinson, IPC digital director.

Neil says: “I’m delighted to appoint someone of Paul’s talent and experience to this pivotal role. His proven understanding of digital publishing, allied to his experience of developing strategies in emerging platforms, are skills that we can now bring to bear across all of our publishing divisions.”

IPC Inspire managing director Paul Williams says: “The 20-plus industry awards that NME has won during Paul’s tenure are testament to his unrivalled commercial and entrepreneurial skill. It is entirely appropriate that the whole company benefits from his experience in building revenues across new platforms.”

Paul adds: “I'm delighted to be asked to take up this role to further the excellent work already taking place to expand IPC's enviable range of brands into even more successful and profitable digital properties.”

Ahead of becoming digital publishing director, Paul will take additional publishing responsibility for Feelgood games, IPC Connect’s new gaming website for women, and in this role will report to managing director Fiona Dent, effective September 8. Kevin Heery will relinquish his current publishing responsibilities for the site from the same date, when he takes up his new role of digital technology director.
